Beach Bound Essentials
Living in Miami gives me the opportunity to spend a lot of time in the water. Before my daughter, Penelope Rose, was born, I would simply throw some random essentials in a bag and run out the door, carefree. However post Penny, I have to plan ahead even for my beach bag. One missing item can truly add unnecessary frustration to your day and ain't nobody got time for that. So since I have my upcoming trip to Florida's gulf coast this weekend, figured I'd share some of my Beach Essentials to ensure that for the rest of the sunny summer or upcoming tropical getaway you are covered.
Henri Bendel Beach Bag - I received this bag as a birthday present a few years ago and its been my beach bag every since. Anyone that knows me can testify that I'm a bag lady who needs her space. I always have a million things to carry around and my beach bag is no exception. This bag is big, spacious, stylish and durable. Love the small, zipped pocket on the inside which is the where I normally store my keys, coin wallet or jewelry. This color is no longer available but I've link the latest available version.
Fun pair of sunnies - A great pair of sunnies can really add to your beach assemble, and most of the time you don't have to break the bank for a fun pair. Trends come and go, so I normally don't like to indulge in sunglasses unless it's a timeless frame/style such as Raybans. Instead, I look to local boutiques that carry trendy, fun styles at a fraction of what designer brands costs. For summer, I always love a good aviator frame with a bright tint to add a pop of color.
Steve Madden Olivia Flat Sandal - Opt for a simple pair of sandals, like these two toned Steve Madden's to dress up your look instead of a simple rubber flip flop. Slide sandals are just so easy and don't require as much fussy to take on and off as gladiators or scrappy sandals. These specific Steve Madden's come in a few different colors, and I'm linking the tan version since I cannot find the two-tones I found.
Sun Bum Moisturizing Sunblock 30 & Coppertone Oil Free Faces SPF 50+ - When I first rushed my sorority (DPhiE forever) I was gifted the name of "Coconut Oil" since I infamously used tanning oil whenever I was in the sun. Although I still use oil at times, over the last few years I'm been reaching more for sunblock. A girl has got to take care of her skin, especially her face. Recently picked up Sun Bum SPF 30 for my body and Coppertone Face sunblock and I cannot explain how much I'm enjoying both of them. Sun Bum smells incredible, doesn't feel oily and sets into the skin quickly so you aren't waiting around forever. The Coppertone face sunblock is light, not oily and little product really goes a long way. Plus it's $5.00, and you all know I live for a bargain.
Aveda Sun Care Protection Hair Veil - Lounging in the sun without a hat? You need to not only protect your face and skin, but your hair. I feel like this is such a forgotten topic when it comes to suncare. Ladies, if you have highlights or touch up your roots (like I do), you need to start protecting your hair when you are in the sun, especially if you don't want that amazing color to fade or tarnish. My amazing colorist, Albert from Element Salon Studios, recommended Aveda's Sun Care Protection Hair Veil to me years ago and it's my go-to hair care product whenever I travel. It literally creates a protective veil on your hair (you will feel the texture of your hair harder than usual) and smells amazing. Seriously worth every penny!
Pixie Beauty Vitamin Wakeup Mist & Ralph Lauren Romance Body Mist - All about a great mist and believe it or not, these are so easy to slip into even your everyday bag. First, the Pixie Beauty Vitamin Wakeup Mist smells amazing and perks up your skin. I use it first thing in the morning before I brush my teeth just to "awaken" my skin before I put on products and makeup. So when I'm laying out in the sun or my face is looking a little drained, I spray some on and voilà , it's a new "face". My Ralph Lauren body mist was gifted to me in a box set with the perfume and I live for this product. If I ever feel like my perfume has worn off, this is the easiest way to refresh especially after a long day in the sun.
And of course, you'll need some reading material to help you soak in the day. Contagious was recommended by a co-worker and I have to say regardless of whether or not you are in Advertising, this book gives such a cool perspective on "why things catch on". Enjoy your beach adventure with the above products and let me know what you think.
